What does the card say on the inside?
Our cards are blank so you can write whatever your heart desires.

What is letterpress?
I’m glad you asked! Letterpress is impressing an image onto the paper. This results in a tactile feel in which the image is depressed into the paper. It's like a "kiss" on the paper. We create the design, scan it into Adobe Illustrator, and create a dense film from our image. From there, we make a polymer plate that is type high and ready to print! The polymer plate gives us the most freedom to make use of our illustration skills. We use rubber based inks that are water-soluble on a vintage press. The process, quality, and beauty that goes into printing takes a lot of craftsmanship. Since Paper Parasol's cards are all handmade, there may be slight variations between cards. This gives each card character – after all, this is more fun!

How green are your cards?
At Paper Parasol Press we use paper and envelops that are 30-100% post consumer recycled and that use renewable energy sources – such as electricity generated by windmills from a family owned paper mill, and from a company right down the the street in Chicago. What we look for in our paper: Chlorine free, alternative energy sources, wind powered, hydro-power, and 30-100% PCW. We are also big advocates of reusing our packaging materials as much as possible. Paper Parasol likes to salvage our paper scraps and make pretty collages with birds and trees.

What is hand canceling?
Hand canceling is a service done at the Post Office. Mail is hand stamped and bypasses the machines, avoiding damage. This is especially good for bulky and oddly shaped mail.

What is your favorite animal?
We are friends of obscure animals, such as: the narwhal, the okapi, the walrus, and the rhino. Puppies are just fine too.
